Guide for Authors

Al-Azhar Medical Journal welcomes original scientific contributions, in the medical field, from all parts of Egypt and the Arab World. Papers are accepted for consideration on the understanding that their contents have not been published elsewhere. Original manuscripts care reports and review articles are accepted. Scientific news of Al-Azhar Medical Society is also welcomed.

A scientific article should possess certain features to be accepted for publication in this journal:

1. Consciousness and apparent respect of reader time.

2. Conformity to accept technical style in text, tables, illustrations, terminology, references and conclusion that are clearly related to the work presented.

Papers should be type-written clearly in double spacing on A4 paper (21 x 30 cm) with a margin of 2-3 cm all round. Length of the article should not exceed 8, rarely 10 pages with 6-8 illustrations or tables. Pertinent selected citations of the literature should not exceed 20 references.

Manuscripts should be set out as follows:

Title: Identify the main topic or the message of the paper:

a) Use the same key terms in the title as in the question and the answer in case of hypothesis-testing paper.

b) Use the message or the message and implication in case of descriptive paper.

c) Use the name of the method, the purpose, and the animal or population stated in the paper in case of methods paper.

Abstract: Provide an overview of the main story and few essential details:

a) Background at the beginning of the abstract.

b) The question you asked.

c) The experiment you did to answer the question.

d) The results you found that answer the question.

e) The answer to the question.

f) Recommendation at the end of the abstract.

Introduction: - Tell the story of where the question came from:

- State the question, either as a question or as a hypothesis.

- Be sure that the experimental approach is evident.

- Keep the introduction short.

- Mention the aim of the work to awaken the interest.

Materials and Methods:

- Provide enough detail and references to enable a trained scientist to evaluate or repeat your work.

 Results: - State the results of the experiment described in materials and methods

- Cite the figures or tables that present supporting data.

- Figures:

a) Use the appropriate type of graph to display the type of data you have (line graph – scattergram - bar graph of one axis - individual bar graph - histogram).

b) Ensure that each figure makes a clear point.

c) Figure legend should be briefly identifying the specific topic or the point of the figure.

d) Use footnotes to explain items.

e) Avoid making tables so large or so small.

Discussion: - Answer the question(s) posed in the introduction.

- Explain how the results support the answers.

- Explain how the answer(s) fit in with existing knowledge.

- Make the discussion no longer than necessary.

References: - Must be accurate in every detail:

● Authors' names, authors' initials, year of publication, title of the paper, title of the journal, volume number, and first and last page numbers.

● In case of textbooks, mention the publisher and his country, volume of the text, number of the chapter, and first and last page numbers.

● References in the text must be in the reference list, and vice versa.

Arabic Summary: - Make it similar to that abstract.

Manuscripts are subjected to the editorial modification to bring them into the style of this journal. Each article is sent to a consultant to assess the scientific standard of the journal before considering its acceptance to publication. Only papers which conform to the journal style are accepted for publication. Failure to submit manuscripts in the journal style may lead to unnecessary delay in publication.
